Chapter : Ghana

When I started preparing for my first trip to Ghana, I wasn't aware of the impact this country would have on me and the way I would eventually photograph and film it. I thought about many photo projects and many ways to capture the Ghanaian culture but it was only when I first walked the streets that I noticed I couldn't shake out that feeling of being in a movie.

Akwaaba
— ALL OVER GHANA, AKWAABA IS RECOGNISED AS MEANING OF WELCOME. GHANAIANS ARE KNOWN FOR THEIR WARMTH, GENEROSITY, AND VIGORUS WELCOME, FRIENDS AND STRANGERS.

On the first day in the village I made a shot with the children of the village running behind me. It's a classic video we see that I never thought I would live in reality.

What I lived there definitely influenced me deeply. I long to live such an experience and I am glad to have done so. I managed to get to know many people who hosted me in their homes even though they did not know me.

Through their hospitality I was able to really know them by following their everyday life. Then I realized that only when you get to know a different culture in depth you understand that what unites us is far more than what separates us.
